Run, Poppy, Run!

22nd April, 2016

This Sunday (24th April), tens of thousands of people will be taking part in the 35th annual London Marathon. In amongst those crowds will be David Moulds… dressed as a giant poppy!

If you’re a regular customer of ours, or just a loyal follower on Twitter and Facebook, chances are you’ll have seen that we’ve chosen the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal as our charitable focus for 2016.

As part of this, we’ve agreed to sponsor marathon participants David and his wife Michaela £1,000 to boost their fundraising efforts for the cause.

This will be David and Michaela’s fifth and fourth Virgin Money London Marathon respectively, and David has even previously tackled it wearing a banana man costume (which, unsurprisingly, attracted a lot of attention!).

In-keeping with this year’s cause, David has created his very own poppy costume!

Consequently, he will be aiming to beat the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon dressed as a plant.

Although the couple have raised over £5,000 for various charities over the years, this particular cause is close to their hearts as David served in the RAF for seven years and is now a civilian aircraft engineer.

Therefore, what better time for us to issue a rallying call to our loyal customers - across Lincolnshire and beyond - to encourage you to donate to the Poppy Appeal?

Next time you visit, why not bring along some loose change; we’ve got poppy-shaped tins in pride of place at all of our restaurant and takeaway outlets in Lincoln, Ruskington and Sleaford – you can’t miss them!

You can also donate to David and Michaela’s fund NOW by visiting their Virgin Money Giving site.

Good luck to everyone taking part in the marathon, especially David and Michaela! We’ll certainly be on the lookout for them, will you?

Did you know…? We also offer 10% discount to military personnel all year round? Well, you do now!
