Staff Profile: Matt Case

23rd May, 2017

In our series of staff profiles, we introduce you to the friendly faces that help make the Elite so special. This month, we speak to Matt Case...

Name: Matthew Case

Nickname: Matt

Job title, Shop: Fryer Manager, Sleaford.

Period of time worked for company: It will be coming up to ten years in total this September as I worked in Ruskington for five years and now I’ve also worked in Sleaford for five years.

Q: Why did you choose to work for The Elite Fish & Chip Company? I was attracted by the fact that it’s a family business. It was also the general atmosphere and the people that attracted me. Prior to working here, I worked in supermarkets and retail so I’ve always dealt with customers.

Q: What is your favourite part of the job? The people, the customers and my colleagues.

Q: What is your favourite item on the Elite menu? To be honest I love everything! Freshness and quality is key to the food menu here at the Elite.

Q: If you could have any superpower what would it be? It would be to have more hours in the day so that we could get more people in and have more preparation time because preparation time is always manic.

Q: What did you want to be as a child? I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to be, but I knew I wanted to work in catering. I think this has something to do with the fact that I was brought up by my grandparents and I was always in the kitchen watching food being made.

Q: What’s your biggest fear? My biggest fear would be dips in supplier quality and receiving a bad batch of a product. If this happened we would have to send stuff back and be without stock, and therefore not be able to serve customers with the food they have come to expect. It would be such a headache!

Q: If you could switch jobs with anyone for a day, what would you choose to do? I would love to work on the trawlers to experience the whole chain process from catching fish, to prepping, to the fish going out to merchants.

Q: What is your favourite way to relax outside of work? I don’t relax, as I have five wonderful children, so I spend most of my time outside of work with them!

Q: What is at the top of your bucket list? A holiday to Florida! I would like to take my children to Disney World when my youngest is just a little bit older.

Q: If you could change anything about the business what would it be? I wish the students would stop leaving us! We often have students working here at Sleaford and they’re brilliant both in the restaurant and takeaway. It’s just a great shame because we train them up and they learn things so quickly, but before you know it they have to leave to us to go to university!

Q: What question do you want to ask the next person being interviewed? How do you manage to fit everything in, in one day?
