Marathon Effort Means Thousands for Poppy Appeal

29th June, 2016

The result of our marathon fundraising total is in and we couldn’t be more delighted and humbled by the response.

You may remember us championing the efforts of two of our regulars, David and Michaela Moulds, who tackled the London Marathon in April to raise money for our charity of the year.

We sponsored the couple £1,000 to boost their funds, but it’s thanks to our generous customers that we’ve been able to raise a total of £4,341.20 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal!

This particular charity is close to David and Michaela’s hearts, as David served in the RAF for seven years and is now a civilian aircraft engineer.

In-keeping with their chosen charity, David made his own poppy costume to wear while running the 26.2 miles for an impressive fifth time, which meant the couple were even stopped to be interviewed live on BBC One.

We couldn’t be more proud and would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated so far.

Since the Poppy Appeal is our chosen charitable focus for 2016, we’re fundraising all year so if you haven’t yet donated, but would like to, why not bring along some loose change on your next visit to the Elite?

We’ve got poppy-shaped tins in pride of place at all of our restaurants and takeaways in Lincoln, Ruskington and Sleaford and every penny counts!

Don’t forget, we also offer a 10% discount to all military personnel all year round, as standard. Just show your ID to enjoy some money off your fish and chips!
