Cooking Up a Treat for Coningsby Luncheon Club

26th April, 2016

Though Christmas is now already a distant memory, it was only recently that we welcomed winners of our 2015 Christmas Wish competition, Coningsby Luncheon Club, to the Elite Sleaford branch.

Back in December, we asked customers what they wanted for Christmas in our second Christmas Wish campaign. And we weren’t disappointed!

In fact, we were overwhelmed with the response after receiving around 250 entries!

Some were simple (free fish and chips), some more humourous (a new set of false teeth!), and some definitely tugged at our heart strings. If only we could fulfil even a handful of them…

After much deliberation, we selected Olive Bright’s entry on behalf of Coningsby Luncheon Club, which was to give a meal to the members of the club as a special treat.

We really admire the impact the club has within its local community, by bringing together more than 100 older people each week, at Coningsby Community Hall, to enjoy a sit-down meal and a space in which to socialise.

We decided to grant Olive’s wish for the club by offering its volunteers a rare week off from cooking, and organised a coach ride to our restaurant in Sleaford.

When they arrived, guests were welcomed by our very own 2015 UK Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year, Rachel Tweedale and the Mayor of Sleaford, Councillor Garry Titmus.

After a few words from Councillor Titmus, he joined more than 60 members of the club and enjoyed a portion of our famous fish and chips.

Rachel has even been invited to visit the Coningsby Luncheon Club as a guest in the near future, with the promise that she won’t have to cook… Watch this space!
